and they are describing the wildfire devastation as more like a war zone. >> they are trying to escape mao as deadly wildfires. >> we are at a dead-end. we are standing with our backs to this building. we are looking at each other and my son was like mom, is this it? what do you tell your kids? >> over 2000 buildings were damaged or destroyed as the fire tore through this historic town. rescue and relief operations have intensified on maui island to supply survivors with food,

water and shelter with thousands left homeless. hawaii's governor says the death toll is likely to rise. >> families will come together but there is a lot of loss here. i think we will see significantly higher numbers. they knew and loved his neighbors. >> the u.s. is dead this wildfires in more than a century say the actions of attorneys contributed to the scale of disaster. but they say they have received no warnings.

their receipt of these messages. hawaii electric is now facing a lawsuit for allegedly keeping his power lines up during the presence of very strong winds and that could be something that contributed to the wildfires. at the same time, there are reports that the water supply collapsed during rescue operations and firefighters trying to fight the blaze, they find the fire hydrants empty. authorities are facing a lot of scrutiny at the moment. >> would have authorities been saying about the response? >> the attorney general is currently leading the critical

decision-making before and after the event but what we keep hearing over and over is it is the speed with which these wildfires spread so we are talking a mile a minute. that made the response especially difficult. they simply did not see this coming and they were unprepared for the speed with which all this unfolded. that is why we are talking about the dentist wildfires in u.s. history in over a century. >> hawaii's governor saying this death toll is likely to rise significantly. why is it taking so long to identify the victims? >> simply because there is so much granted covered. thousands of abandoned vehicles,

thousands of burned out vehicles. there is so much ground to cover over the weekend. only 3% of the disaster area had been covered so far. in terms of identification, you can imagine. that compounds the loss felt by the residents of maui. >> thank you. the united nations as it is extremely concerned about reports that these's coup are planning to charge the president that they ousted with treason. they have criticized the coup leaders saying that a move like this would contradict the regime's declared willingness to resolve this crisis peacefully. >> for days now, these years mr. president has been held in

captivity by the country's new military rulers. now, the coup leaders are threatening to prosecute the former president. c1consequences of the coup firsthand. economic sanctions from neighboring countries have it hard including power cuts imposed by nigeria. some businesses only get around 90 minutes of electricity per day.

africa. the eu has agreed to pay more than 100 million euros to reduce the flow of migrants. they also help to cover costs. groups working with refugees and migrants say much more is needed to create safer pathways to europe without people risking the dangerous mediterranean crossing. >> let's look at headlines around the world. a list of criminal charges against donald trump has appeared on the fulton county website in the u.s. state of georgia. charges were later removed from the website. they included racketeering, conspiracy and false statements. the former u.s. president has not been indicted but they are investigating whether trump and his allies meddled in the 2020 election results.

schultz has said he does not want to be pressured into making that decision before he is ready. he does not want to appeared to give in to pressure for just ukraine or any other government. the u.s. has also refused to send long-range cruise missiles. this is why ukraine once these so much. they are a big threat to russia. not only can they hit behind enemy lines but they have arranged long enough to hit moscow which would significantly update -- up the ante here and an invasion of ukraine. so far they have been fairly immune to ukrainian attacks. that is why germany has not given the green light to this. germany has promised 5 billion euros of military aid annually for the foreseeable future.
